Ealing Dean Allotments Society - Special General Meeting - 25th September 2016
On Sunday 25 September, the Ealing Dean Allotments Society (EDAS) called a Special General Meeting (SGM) for all plotholders at Northfields Allotments to discuss the proposed development by Pathways on the allotment site. The plan to construct a mix of social and private housing, including a five or six storey building is expected to result in the loss of 10% of the allotment site.
57 plotholders attended the meeting. A further 18 apologised in advance for their absence but did provide a postal vote in favour of the committee’s proposal.
The SGM provided an opportunity for Christina Fox, Chairman of the EDAS Committee, to update plotholders on meetings held between EDAS Committee members and Pathways, as well as other communications, including phone calls and emails, that the Committee has received from Pathways and other interested parties about the development. It was noted that many plotholders have also attended consultations held by Pathways in recent weeks.
In light of Pathways' plans, the Committee of the EDAS proposed that the present extent of the Northfield Allotment site should be held in trust in perpetuity, as allotments for the community of Ealing. The Committee resolved as follows:
- to oppose the current proposal by Pathways to develop on part of Northfield Allotments;
- to oppose any revised or future proposals to develop on or sell any part of the allotment site;
- to take all necessary steps to prevent development on or any loss of land from the current site;
- to call a further SGM once a planning application has been submitted
These resolutions were put to a vote amongst all attendant plotholders and carried unanimously.
